Qualcomm - remote paging?

I've seen from my reading of trucking forums that drivers seem to be attached to their trucks even when on break because they are afraid of missing messages from their qualcomm. Especially if they are waiting for another load. Seems if there was a way to be paged in some way with Qualcomm message it would allow a driver to get away from their truck, for example to go for an hour walk, without fear of losing a good load.

Does anybody know if such a paging service exist?

I have heard of the one linking to your cell service but I won't pay for that. I jut send a msg to my DM telling him I will be out of truck for whatever and ask him to call me. This works out well and I haven't lost any loads for the past four years.

Seward Motor Freight has a voice response Qualcomm in their trucks. I'm not exactly sure how it works yet, but I was told that a voice will come over the QC letting you know what the message is to avoid stopping for those nonsensical messages like "Congratulations to Fleet 1234 on their accident free week." Although I've never worked for a company that kept the QC locked out when the truck's moving. I understand the safety aspect of it, but man is that inconvenient. Especially in today's HOS driving world.

i didnt think seward would ever get qualcomms or rockwell Etc
i worked there 14 months and we just used our cell phones to communicate,i like it way better than any onboard computer ####

When I first worked for FFE in '96, we had beepers that were usable within 500 feet of the truck and SMX had them also, but, after 2000, haven't seen them at any company. They got "lost" a lot.

My feeling would be that if they wanted to talk that bad tough they should not have locked their own system. Don't waste my minutes.
