Set aside a designated amount in a separate account each month until you find an acceptable benefits plan.

 

I have heard here that OOIDA has some affordable plans, it's a ripoff no matter what.

There's nothing affordable. Wife and I just invest that money pretty aggressively and try to stay healthy.

$700 Is a bargain for a family. Any size. I pay about $1000 a month for a group plan through farmers insurance. Two big people, two little people.

 

Health Insurance is very expensive. Most people have no clue what their employer pays, and it should factor into your choice to be self-employed. A lot of guys have their wife work at a job with good benefits to help out with that. My wife's employer pays almost $2k a month for our family plan while she pays like $5 a week. A lot of the people at her work have self-employed spouses as the benefits are a huge draw.
There are med share plans, usually religious, as well as concierge doctors that don't take insurance as well. You may find a combo of the two works for your family.
