Recently replaced my Mobile Hotspot from Verizon with the $5/mo unlimited but very slow speed package on StarLink. Went from $15/mo to $5/mo so I’m already saving money.

They recently upped the $50/mo package from 50 Gig (plus could buy more data for $1/Gb) to not include 100Gb and then it drops down to an unlimited but slow speed package for the rest of the month.

I’m not sure how I will use it yet but it’s a nice addition to my cellular options here in the truck.

I mounted it inside my Volvo and it works fine right through the sunroof. Awesome mounting bracket too. (Suction cups)

Love it and glad I took the plunge… still not sure what the right combo will be for me… but the high speed data and then drop my cellular packages to something cheaper or keep my iPhone/iPad plans as my main connection and just use the StarLink mini as background low speed backup.

but ya, I love it in my truck.

Ya, gotta like the footprint of Verizon but I still hit voids every so often. Or slow speeds when stuck waiting on an accident to clear or parked in a crowded Truck Stop… rare, but it happens. Been looking at Mint Mobile (T-Mobile) now that I have the StarLink as backup.

I am thinking about getting the mini for my truck because I like to stream netflix and youtube to my laptop...hot spotting my phone has run out of data before.

Were you able to mount the antenna yourself or is it something to have a professional do?

I own stock in a company called space mobile ticker ASTS. As much as I like musk, they’re gonna put him out of business in 2 to 3 years. They’ve developed a satellite technology that goes direct to your cell phone no receiver needed and it’s faster than Wi-Fi. They already have six successful satellites in orbit and they will have 50 by the end of the year 2027 covering 75% of the planet, the technology is patented and they have contracts with every major cell company in the world. It’s what we referred to as “game changer” Elon will need another idea to compete. As good as his starlink is, better is on the way.

Elon already has that tech as well. They have a few test going on now and will most likely release it all in the next year or so if can get approved. No other company can compete in this space like Space X can.

I looked into this a month ago, and need to get it. Currently running Verizon hotspot 100gb/month and usually don't run out, but have hit bad areas, especially around Dallas Tx. Our yard there is just in a dead zone, right off I-45, and I usually do a 34 there twice a month.

I've got the tanker hose rack right behind the cab, can I mount it on that fixed and get good enough reception? It would be under the roofline height so not subject to much crosswinds.
