Go down to Arkansas or Alabama and ask every redneck driving a log truck if they have active insurance or if their truck is even registered…. Your Californian durka durka won’t look as bad….and cops don’t even do #### about…. I was lucky to have a police report after a Columbia took off my mirror because a #### hillbilly had 15’ of overhang and wanted to make a “creative parking” at a full truck stop… cops didn’t bother going to his house after a hit and run, truck didn’t have plates, no registration, no insurance, and last annual was done back in 2022, no mud flaps on truck and trailer either.
Who's Really Driving America's Trucks??

Were they killed because the driver was an illegal immigrant or an unqualified/poorly trained driver?
The way to stop these incidents is to make the CDL test meaningful:
- Eliminate the multiple guess questions. Make applicants write out the answers in complete sentences.
- Make a class A applicant take the road test in a sleeper with a 53' loaded with 28 k on the drives and 34k on the trailer with the tandems at the 43 foot mark.
- Make the drive test 3 hours long, including at least 15 miles on a freeway and button hook turns.
- Change the backing test - 10.5 foot hole, 65 feet in front of it, no limit on pull ups but a 15 minute time limit.
- You want doubles/triples? Better be able to put together and break down a set.
- You want a tanker endorsement? Better be able to hook hoses, turn on a pto, air off, etc.
- Want to go flatbedding? That's a day of strapping and tarping - coils, suicide coils, shotgun coils, lumber, big pipes, little pipes.
Change the test requirements and watch how quickly schools increase the quality of their instruction and companies raise their standards.
Or we could just hold brokers/shippers financially liable for the actions of the carriers they hire. Better yet, expand liability to the finance companies that are extending credit.Gearjammin' Penguin and OlegMel Thank this. -
Do that and see how fast the illegals disappear. It’s a hand in glove issue. But you still need immigration enforcement to get rid of the ones already drivingGearjammin' Penguin, HoundDog7 and TurkeyCreekJackJohnson Thank this.

But immigration enforcement without dealing with the underlying structural issues isn't going to do anything. And that's what most of these threads want.bryan21384 and OlegMel Thank this.

These threads are made by lazy privileged folks who like pointing fingers and blaming every one around them for their incompetence.

That’s a broad brush stroke.Gearjammin' Penguin, HoundDog7 and TurkeyCreekJackJohnson Thank this.

Underlying structural issues without STRICT immigration enforcement. And that's what you and others want.
Fixed it.HoundDog7, Speedy356 and ElmerFudpucker Thank this. -
No, it’ll do something. It just may not fix the underlying issue.HoundDog7 and TurkeyCreekJackJohnson Thank this.
