Would you rather have that student spend 45 minutes trying to back in next you once he's on his own?
Or would you rather he hit you?
Backing is a skill that needs to be developed in different scenarios. While there is no difference in steering between backing during the day versus at night, the visual cues are vastly different. Same thing with backing in between two trucks versus backing between cones - same space but different feeling. Particularly, talk about what went right, what went wrong and how to do better next time - then immediately do it again to apply the feedback and reinforce the lesson.

I've pulled flatbed, cattle and now reefer and dont get those whining about reefer parking next to them at all. Modern reefers are the same or quieter than APU'S and they route their exhaust up instead of straight into their neighbors sleeper, but Noone talks about parking next to APU's.Gatordude, scythe08, FearTheCorn and 5 others Thank this.

I think it's a close call. I would have simply and only asked 'can you practice backing over there, I'm trying to sleep', pointing at another empty spot. But it's open to the public and trucks come and go.
Gatordude, Coolbreezin, navypoppop and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, it's inconsiderate. Not wrong, but probably could've been done at a more appropriate time.
He's probably also teaching it's ok to
not pull up after fueling, and "yeah, that other truck is coming up hot in the left lane, but eff him, lets do the slow crawl past this other truck at 64mph and hold up everyone"Last edited: Mar 5, 2026

Y’all a bunch of self centered inconsiderate azzhats.
Everybody says the OP is wrong, but it is midnight, there are other open spots, and they are pulling a flat so they are likely day light truckers.
Have some common decency for your neighbors. Be respectful. Tmc had no business doing this crap at that time in a truck stop full of people trying to sleep, & if they were going to they should have went out to the back 40 and found some empty space to play with. They could have done this mess in an empty lot in the day light, it’s not like Tmc keeps that truck loaded & running all that hard.
OP, i’d of done the same thing.Gearjammin' Penguin, Gatordude, ElmerFudpucker and 10 others Thank this. -
You sleep with your windows down in a truck stop? Is it your 1st trip I do understand having the windows down on a nice night I like to also. But wouldn’t do it in a truck stop because THERE IS TO MUCH NOISE.

Super-excellent post! THANK YOU.
Gatordude and gentleroger Thank this. -
I think others have more than made the point that all bets are off at a truck stop but I'll still add this.
Never, ever, ever expect someone to cater to your personal preferences at a truckstop. Noise, disgusting habits, dumped human waste, garbage, loud talking on cell phones, usually off hours in some other language than English, truck maintenance 2' from your door, blocking you in, blocking you out, jumping line, 30 minute breaks at the pump with no shame. This is what you get at a truck stop. If you are sensitive, and I'll admit I am, don't park there!

Reefer hater?

All joking aside -- I gather some of the new ones coming out now are actually kinda quiet (by comparison).
