It was July 15th last year when I was camping when I gave it up completely, never was a huge drinker or a get really drunk guy but "enjoyed " a beer when it was available, that grew to 3 or 4 then all the sudden a twelve pack. So I was close to running out at my campsite and sat there and contemplated running back into town to grab some (30 miles) and was getting kinda pissy about it and sat there and thought about it and poured out the 4 I had left and haven't touched one since. Mental clarity is pretty huge, that's the biggest difference I noticed almost immediately.

I've been off the sauce for several weeks now myself. I'd been a pretty heavy drinker since hanging up the keys to take care of my mom, then just crawled right into the bottle after she died three days before Christmas '24. I don't know what changed, but about six weeks back I just stopped wanting it, and I was going through about a gallon of bourbon a week. Been dry ever since. I'm sleeping better, loosing weight, have less joint pain and I'm not waking up every morning feeling like death warmed over. I'm glad I quit, and even though we've never met, I'm glad you quit too. Cheers! (with a glass of lemonade)

I’m glad to hear that you are still on the wagon!! I have no advice to give, as you know my life is a giant #### storm right now. But as I sit here in a camper by the lake you give me inspiration my friend.

    Good job Blair!

I have been there, woke up one day and looked at the bottle and wondered why I felt i needed it.

Stopped cold turkey and haven't looked back, but boy were there were times I wanted a beer in my hands lol.

To this day if I have a playe of na hos I want a beer with it but I go with something else.

    Keep strong.

First, thanks for sharing this very difficult and challenging time in your life. I find it very inspirational to hear the challenge you are faced with and your courage to make the change. You will find great rewards for your health and finances as you rise above. Not to sound condescending or as if I have the answers, but each hour of each day leads to a week and then a month and so on. Stay focused on the small short term victories as they build into bigger victories.

    Congratulations?

That's pretty amazing you was able to function at a high level with that kind of drinking. Two of my uncles was the same way and managed to quick similar to you. One of them had owned his own bar for a decade plus when I was younger. Him and my Dad was super drinkers from Military WW2. I can remember them each drinking a case of beer a piece and breaking out the hard Rum afterwords. Never seen them get drunk in my entire life but would get a buzz.

Glad you are taking this serious.

    It's a funny thing.
I've drank my whole adult life.
Yesterday I woke up and out of the blue I thought "I don't want to drink no more."
I wasn't hung over or anything, I was just tired of it.
So here I am, drinking a beer wondering what's next.....and what replaces it . Weed?

I've been told iced tea and cornbread will substitute.
