I’m feeling dumb aboutan Eaton 18spd transmission

I had replaced the input shaft on an Eaton 18spd and the shaft going around and round easily but soon as you go counter clockwise it stops after 1:4 of a turn if thst. Is this normal? Ty pretty sure it’s in neutral cuz the yoke in the back turns freely.

ha edit because I took this job over from my cross shift and I got looking into it after taken it apart again and a #### rag my coworker stuffed under the tranny. And oddly got tangled inside the tranny

Does that mean you found the problem is was it something in addition to that?
