What did it for me was cat hunting— AZ had, and still does, a major cat problem and… anyway, running cats horseback with hounds sounds really barbaric but it’s about as much fun as you can have with your pants on— shooting a cat out of a tree after the hounds have put it there is much less so — in fact it’s not worthy of any mention yet there’s AHs that hang around a bar and brag about what a … never mind— never got a long with that kind of AH and never intend to try

 

Idk… a 3 peckered goat is pretty happy too

 

Killing anything is never fun, but often necessary. Be it management, food, or whatever. I’m all for hunting, but it’s the hunting that’s fun. Not the killing

 

There’s some that think it is and those are the ones I shy away from— I don’t even like being around when it’s time to do the steer every year nowadays but it’s necessary if you want quality in the freezer

 

I’ve done my share. I don’t like it, and would prefer not to do it. Hell I don’t even like seeing it in nature. But buzzards gotta eat, same as worms

 

We had a friend in California that ran hounds, he bear hunted them normally but when there was a problem cat that the state couldnt catch they would call him for help, his dogs would get it tree'd then the state would shoot it, if they kept up with the dogs.

We spun off from guiding to running cats for the AZ F&G to dart and tag them— a much moar fun endeavor

 

I wouldn’t have a problem putting down a nuisance cat. I won’t hesitate on anything that’s become a problem
