    Well put and eloquently said to a hard choice of most people wanting to feel independent within the reins of their employer. The trucking industry has had a long leash with that said deciding to come to cryogenic industry shouldn't be taken lightly. You thought Mom and Dad were tough, you have no idea. Dennixx absolutely has it 100 percent it's an internal decision to turn your independence into following corporate, safety, and Osha standards. Follow, relax, comply and the career and money will come with security and rock solid career to retire from.
    Congratulations to Dennixx on your retirement of 50 years. I retired end of 2024 at Decembers end with 44 years in trucking. After retirement now I do miss working on team, but now Deb and I are on later life's plans, and away we go...

    Well I haven't worked there for 2 years now. Which then they used Southern Pines Trucking. So currently unsure how things are. I don't even think the website lists pay now. Which I don't remember how it was then. Think non training pay was around $300? Then raises after x time. With paid flights to and from the truck.

    Also I honestly forgotten about this thread. Because at one point I stopped reading it. No idea why.

    I've been doing this about 5 minutes (3 months, hauling CO2), so I'm not claiming to know anything about anything... but one thing I noticed very quickly is that working for one of the big industrial gas companies is not "trucking" as most drivers define the term.

    Leave that old mindset at the door and enjoy a very well paying job.

    I'm glad its not trucking, I was very tired of trucking and all the BS that comes with it, I'm really enjoying my job at Linde...I knew going in what it was about because a trusted friend has been there a few years now and always told me straight (much like Denis and others here).

    You'll be working for an industrial gases company, not a trucking company....wrap your mind around that and how/why they're different and enjoy perhaps the best job a driver could hope for.

    I still have my flashback moments of stress and hurry after 23 years OTR but there really is no need for it now (and cryo is not the place to be in a hurry)... none at all... like that line from the movie Crossfire Trail, "slow down, you'll get a more harmonious outcome"... I'm getting better at it as I go, still adjusting to the change myself.

    Accept it for what it is and enjoy the change of pace, give them an honest days work and they'll give you an honest days pay.

    I’ve heard Linde offers a pension, is that true? They are high on my list but southern pines seems like a way to get my foot in the door

    Yes Sir, I’ve been very fortunate to work for three private fleets one in fuel and two cryogenic fleets. They are both cradle to the grave producers who happen to have a transportation fleet. I can now say after being in cryo for over nine years and moving into the driver trainer roll. Some of the hardest things for guys to break that haven’t come from other cryo fleets is the hurry up mentality.

    Yes they do have a pension, 4% I believe.

    Cryo experience couldn't hurt but it seems to me what they want most is stable job history, a good safety record, and being willing to adhere to their policies (no phones, strict speed management, placing cones when backing, etc.).

    The phone was a hard one for me... so used to using it for so many things to help make life easier....navigation, traffic, weather, talking to pass time/miles, sharing customer info on the fly, etc... very hard habit to break cold turkey but it's how they want it so that's how they'll get it.
