Mine is about a foot under the roof line. It doesn't seem to matter. People are having luck putting these behind sunroof glass, on dashboards, mounted to mirrors, etc. They seem to work well enough about anywhere.
The only place I can tell you from experience that they don't work is when you park under an overpass.![]()

That's the way technology works. I like Starlink, but personally, I'd love to see Musk put out of business. Do I think it'll ever happen? No but I'd love to see it. I think he's the devil personified.Sons Hero Thanks this.

I bought a system from Veritas Vans that encloses and protects the mini and uses either magnets or suction cups to mount. I use the suction cups to secure it to the inside glass of the sunroof in my Volvo. Works like a charm. I bet you could almost lay it in the dash to see if it works.BlackjackCo, dave01282000 and FullMetalJacket Thank this.

Elon will soon have Direct To Cell via LTE/4G & 5G options. Your cell phone will connect directly to the satellites like cell towers in space.
He also bought a huge amount of bandwidth and frequencies from DishNetwork (EchoStar?)
I think the next round of cellular chips will also include tech for newer options built in too.FullMetalJacket Thanks this. -
The lady executive from StarLink just announced StarLink Mobile… something is happening.Siinman and FullMetalJacket Thank this.

They did recently make a change to the TOS that impacts mobile customers and folks with planes.
For the $5/mo unlimited slow plan, it doesn’t work over 10 mph. So it works like normal but then shuts down when traveling. If you are going over 100 mph, like planes, it forces you into a much higher price package.
I will have to reconsider how I use it now. With the $5/mo plan I used it to replace my slow speed hotspot as the backbone to my internet setup for items not needing high speed like my GPS and email etc.
Now you have to jump up to the $50 plan with 100mb of high speed data to access the low speed connection over 10 mph.Siinman and FullMetalJacket Thank this. -
I actually have done just that...it has worked well in the dash so far. I've just been propping it up with a folded towel when it needs to be aligned at a particular angle. I'm very happy with it.MidWest_MacDaddy, BlackjackCo, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this.

Awesome… I was going to try doing that too but bought both together and forgot to try it out. I’m amazed at just how flexible reception can be. Sure there is a preferred angle and direction but doesn’t seem to bother me it too much as long as it can see some portion of sky.FullMetalJacket, dave01282000 and 86scotty Thank this.

I'm about to test mine on a long road trip in a rental car. Nowhere to park it but the dashboard. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works.
FullMetalJacket and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.
