I have seen both tires sidewalls destroyed by slow speed driving with a rough rock between.
I have also seen a destroyed headache rack door from a rock that came loose at 50 mph from a drive tire set.
And yes putting a 1 to 5 pound weight outside the rim diameter will absolutely cause a balance problem.

cke, Carpenter Scotty, CAXPT and 6 others Thank this.

I had that happen to me couple years ago. Hauled a excavator into a jobsite and picked up a rock in between the duals. Or as i like to call them "dually bombs". I always check my tires when leaving jobsites but its hard to see when u have full fenders and also i just get lazy most times or in a rush to get down the road. Well one got stuck where i couldnt see it and i got fuel couple hours later and discovered a flat tire when i was doing a walk around. Drove it all the way home since i was empty and heading that ways anyways and when i pulled the tire off the entire sidewall was destroyed. the rock had completely cut its way thru the tire and went flying down the road somewhere. No idea when that happened, never saw or heard a peep
