This happened yesterday morning southbound. I was headed northbound. Looked like a medical condition or a guy lost his brakes past the rest area and ramps right past the southbound scale.
Very bad, looked like a KW or Pete pulling utility trailers on a flatbed rear ended a dry van. Tractor cab was completely destroyed, lodged all the way under the dry van all the way to the rear axle. Essentially nothing left of the cab. Dry van freight pushed all the way through the nose of the rear-ended truck and into it's cab. Other cars involved too.
Anyone know anything else about this one? I don't see how it could have not been a fatality.

SWVA Traffic Advisory - I-77 Road Closure at Fancy Gap Due to Severe Fog & Crashes
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.xx.fbcdn.net%2Frsrc.php%2FyW%2Fr%2FyG7_dWumUs0.webp&hash=f7ff9b35e855593ab2185863828632d4)
Virginia State Police
Three multi-vehicle crashes on Interstate 77 in southwestern Virginia have closed the southbound lanes from Wytheville, Va., to the North Carolina border. Two fatalities have been confirmed at this time. At least a dozen individuals have been injured and transported to hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina. Heavy fog causing zero visibility for drivers in the Fancy Gap area is to blame.
At 11:39 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 16), Virginia State Police received the first call of a crash involving multiple vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-77 at the 6 mile marker in Carroll County. Within minutes, two more multi-vehicle crashes were reported in the southbound lanes of I-77 between the 4 and 7 mile markers. One crash involves at least six passenger vehicles and four tractor-trailers. Another crash involves at least two tractor-trailers and four passenger vehicles.
Virginia State Police have all available personnel on scene responding to and investigating the crashes. To prevent significant backups on Interstates 77 and 81, all southbound I-77 traffic is being detoured at the I-77/I-81 interchange in Wytheville. Motorists are advised to use Routes 21, 52, or 58 to reach North Carolina until the interstate is re-opened. State police hope to have at least one southbound lane of I-77 reopened by 3:30 p.m.mjd4277 Thanks this. -
Wow, gotta be it. By the time I got there there was no fog, only 2 trucks left and a few cars on rollbacks. Big delay southbound though, all the way over the top of the mountain back towards 81.
RIP to those involved. That flatbed driver had to have been one of the fatalities. -
This happened back in November....... -
totally missed that date hiding in there. lol

I couldnt find anything on it. A guy that parks across from me, his friend works at the towing company that covers that stretch of highway....I hadn't seen him to ask him about it.

I had to shutdown early at Fort Chiswell because of that. Was on my way to Opelika,Alabama but I-77 was shutdown while they were cleaning up the wreck. 20 mile backup which would’ve ate up the remaining DOT time on my clock.
