So I need some feedback I didn’t know any better when setting up my dot number a business info and just have my personal Gmail with my first and last name @gmail. I just activated my authority and plan to haul local flatbed. I have always leased on and decided to go out on my own. I own my truck and trailer outright and already bonded my insurance.
I read that you should get a email with your company name or domain. But then I read any changes do not look good to your contact information. Will this affect brokers and shippers working with me if I have this email and not change it? I haven’t hauled a load yet with my own numbers I have about a week before it becomes authorized and receive me letter from dot.
Any out would be appreciated, I set up my dot numbers 7 years ago and have always had the same info, but finally bonded my authority so I know I’ll be considered a new authority and many brokers won’t work with me right off the bat, but I have local companies i am going to be hauling for that I have run loads for in the past but plan on filling in the gaps with load board freight short haul around my area

I'd set up a separate account with the trucking name. Sooner than later. Haven't noticed but isn't there a form (150?) to update changes?
-
I used yahoo, I’ve also seen guys use the @cable company name.com as well,

If you didn’t get a second phone, get one now. Your phone isn’t going to get a break with all the spam calls
D.Tibbitt and Opendeckin Thank this. -
Leave your present email address alone on the US Dot info and create another one - something you will not mistake - for brokers and other business that you monitor.
If someone complains about the gmail address, just ignore it, you are not an IT person who can setup an email server.
When you talk to a broker, give them the one you monitor, and only use that one. The other check on it every week, keep it clean because you will get so much crap in it.
The same with your phone, get a new phone, use that number for your business, keep the other one as the one for registration.
Why a new one for business?
Because your present on is in the ether of the internet and will be no good. Turn the phone OFF, keep it charged and check on it weekly, clean up the gazillion Voice Mails and spam calls, and only call those back that have official business, like the state.
If you contact brokers, customers, potential customers, etc. ... use the business only numbers/email. Give your insurance company your business number/email too. -
You can setup a domain email right in gmail. It costs money tho

Yes its a standard letter. You will recieve another one stating your authority has been activated
-
Also, you are going to recieve about 10,000 emails from people offering you all kinds of services. You dont need any of them. Its fairly easy to keep on top of all the paperwork yourself. Theres lots of o/op with their own authority on this forum that can help u any questions u have
