To be "extreme"...a driver's short break could be 9hrs 59min and their long break 9hrs 59min (7 of those in sleeper berth status)...and that would all pause the 14hr clock.
A 19 hour shift with time left over?

I appreciate the responses to my op. I like what my buddy told me about all this…
He said; “Your problem is you think you’re smarter than that there computer.”
I suspect he might be on to something but it’s just a consequence of never actually needing to stretch out my day that long and having done splits differently for so many years.
Ultimately I am glad to see more flexibility rather than less. My initial reaction was possibly being put in an awkward situation where I would have to explain to dispatch that “no matter how much time my tablet says I ‘can’ drive, I’m done for the day”. Fortunately I work for a company where that would never be an issue.
Just wanted to vent about it
May eventually vent more about samsara data collection practices and privacy concerns, perhaps in another thread (?). -
Knowing that the makers of the ELD are not truckers and only drive a desk in California I would still not fully trust the computer. Trust but verify. Too many canceled ELDs for me to trust them completely.hope not dumb twucker and gentleroger Thank this.

Everything the eld is completely legal. Go read the log regulation so u can learn how to run splits then calculate it out on paper. If you are unsure. The cancelled eld's is because they are fly by nights that delete and modfiy drive times. They get caught, deactivated then start again as a new company. Samsara is a huge company that i would guess has millions of eld's working everyday.
