I am not surprised at anything NY does as releted to on-board electronics. They have missed the boat, aming at the devices and not the idiots who use them. My truck is full of items legal under thier mobile scanner-receiver law and once, tried to prosecute a HAM for having his equipment in a mobile set-up (NY lost that one by the way).
No radar detectors, scanners and maybe (in Canada) no CB radios eithor. And now GPS units. Common sense is dead.

MarkLooneyTune Thanks this. -
I agree NY is confussing. I make deliveries into Brooklyn and on Long Island. I have driven under bridges marked 12'2'' with a 13'6" trailer. If they ever get so much snow that there is a foot or more packed on the road surface then the roads would be shut down!

The consumer market should decide, not the state.
And, it isn't a GPS issue. It's a driver issue-as you so rightly point out. Does New York or any other state really belive that a GPS is going to have that big of an impact on truck safety. We have the MCRA. And apprently all that great data in there is being ignored-what makes a GPS better? What evidence can they point to? What non-sense!
