Schools train to pass CDL test, most don’t train very good on that part even. I went to mega trucking convoy training. So they trained us to pass CDL plus the way they wanted us to drive their trucks. We did lots of city driving. Then with trainer for 30,000 miles driving 5 week out on the road doing every day driving.

They told us anyone can hold steering wheel straight go down highway. City driving was the hard part. This trucking comply is in Salt Lake City Utah. So we did some mountain driving when training at yard. Most schools won’t teach that since it not part of CDL test plus most schools are not located near any mountains.

Do you mean a school not owned by a trucking company? Most CDL schools are not owned by a trucking company. Different trucking companies have different requirements to hire new drivers, so not every CDL school gets their students hired by every trucking company. It's better to know which company you will work for before you decide what CDL school to attend.

Almost all CDL schools train drivers and they don't care if you drive long-haul or local. Your employer is who trains new drivers according to long-haul or local work.
