I got my medical exam done and they said it would cost an extra $20 to send it in. I didn't pay that because I figured I could just upload it myself, but apparently that has changed and the state has to get it from the FMCSA.

Are they required to send it in, or will I have to pay to take the exam again plus pay the extra fee?

It is their responsibility to send it in. New rules since july of 25. Thats bs they charged you to send it in. They should educate themselves on the new law
Get in contact with them and tell them they have a duty to do so

I wondered the same thing! But just got mine an hour ago and he printed off a copy for me and uploaded a copy to the state as well! Took about five minutes and charged me $100 for the whole thing… I think you’re DMV would do it for you if you can’t figure it out!

I did an exam back in november and they had everything on a tablet. Where it sent it directly to the fmcsa for review. It was updated and accepted the same day.. try to stick to exam centers that specialize in dot screenings only or a small chriopractor or someone like that. The urgent care centers are the worst.

Even if I contact them I can't have it sent anymore because it has to be sent on that day before midnight from what ive read.

Any idea how long it would take to show up on my license status?

It was at a TA dot doctor, listed on the FMCSAs website.

Maybe they consider it an administration fee. Hindsight is 20/20 on what you should have done and just paid the paltry 20 bucks.
If you are really upset about it, and if it isn't legal to charge you, you could start a class action lawsuit.

How would in work in China?

The Concentra my terminal likes to send people to is so bad you could go there at 2 AM on a Saturday, be the the only one in the place, and still be there 4 hours for a physical.

I found an exam place to go to now. I might have to pay for it myself, but it’s well worth it.

This is fully covered by Part 391.41(g)(5)(i)(b)

    (B) Beginning June 22, 2018 by midnight (local time) of the next calendar day after the medical examiner completes a medical examination for any driver who is required to be examined by a medical examiner listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners, the medical examiner must electronically transmit to FMCSA, via a secure FMCSA-designated website, a completed CMV Driver Medical Examination Results Form, MCSA-5850. The Form must include all information specified for each medical examination conducted for each driver who is required to be examined by a medical examiner listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners in accordance with the provisions of this subpart E, and should also include information for each driver who is required by a State to be examined by a medical examiner listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners in accordance with the provisions of this subpart and any variances from those provisions adopted by such State.

The Medical Examiner sends a form MCSA-5850 via secure means to the FMCSA, who in turn transmits this information to the CDLIS. As a driver, you should not be transmitting anything to the state at this time. In fact, last I heard, the only drivers who MUST have a medical on them to operate a CMV are the ones operating >10,001 <26,001 CMVs and do not hold a CDL.

The MCSA-5850 is NOT the MCSA-5875 long form used during the physical.

    M,

Good to see you still active. One note, there are a few states that are still non-compliant with this, and in those states the driver must still submit the certification themselves. The medical examiner is required to upload the results, however the SDLA doesn't have the ability to receive and process the info from FMCSA. Crazy that the results have been required to be uploaded to FMCSA for nearly a decade now, and the states have been required for a year now to get the certification directly from FMCSA, yet a few still do not.

Here is the most recent information on the five states that have not implemented the updated process. They are Alaska, California, Kentucky, Louisiana and New Hampshire. Any other state and the driver no longer can submit the medical certification themselves.

    FMCSA National Registry

As for the OP, if your examiner is doing their job legally, they will have uploaded the certificate information to FMCSA, and unless you are in one of the five states above, your state will automatically receive it. It can take up to 15 days, and you can legally use the paper certificate for those 15 days.

    https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulatio...onal-registry-ii-june-23-2025-compliance-date

If the examiner does not upload it, file a support claim with the FMCSA at https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulatio...national-registry-certified-medical-examiners

To verify it has been uploaded your employing motor carrier is required, 15 days after you completing the exam, to obtain a new MVR abstract form your SLDA showing the updated medical certification information. You can also order your own copy of your abstract to verify for yourself it has been uploaded.

When i did mine last year it should up the next day on my license. Dont mess around with this because the state will downgrade your CDL. Just go pay for another one with a different doctor office and be strict to them that they are required by law to upload it on your behalf. Me personally i would file a complaint with the fmcsa against the original examiner you used. The fmcsa doesnt mess around with this stuff and the examiners are liable to lose their qualification for being able to do dot exams if they dont follow the rules.
