I heard a few years Google bought waze and we’re supposed to merge the two together, I’ve been retired a little over a year, so I don’t know if they’ve done anything yet or not

So you guys seriously don't recommend just getting another Garmin or trying rand out this time? I've had my dezl770 since I first started. The microsd somehow broke in it and I can't get it out. I can't update the maps because of that. I haven't really had to use it in 5 years or so since I know where I'm going during that time.

Being deep in Texas and having to travel places I haven't gone to in 5+ years is really a shock. Especially with how things have changed with the Texas construction etc. I have my gps set at 80k and 13'6 at all times.

I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t buy one, I wouldn’t buy one myself. I never had a problem with waze and Google maps. You type in your destination and it tells you the best route and the mileage that you have left to your destination.

it also shows the back ups or road closures on your route.

How do you deal with specific trucker routes?

Do you mean routes trucks aren’t allowed on?
The company I worked for routed us, but I would go the best route for me. They never really said anything about going out of route and if it was OOR for an accident or road closure I would call in and get paid for the extra miles to go around.

Nah Estes ain't doing that for sure but you can get paid for the miles. I just figure I have $500 free so why not update the GPS. I'd probably give this one away to a friend

*Just used Google and it tried to lead me down a route that isn't for trucks lol*

Using a trucker GPS to set it and forget it is arguably worse than properly trip planning with Google Maps. I'll set it up and check satellite view and street view as needed to make sure it's a good, common sense route. Sometimes I need to drop a pin along the route to make sure it stays on the roads I need to stay on.

My company has a GPS built in to the ELD and I can't use it without it trying to send me down residential roads with posted no truck signs, or weight restricted bridges. It also doesn't have common sense, sending me down routes that are technically truck legal, but involve nightmarishly tight turns.

Don't get me wrong I use both, especially Google to check traffic since my Garmin for some reasons doesn't tell me about accidents anymore.
