The plane had just landed from Montreal and was rolling out at 30 mph when the collision occurred. Both pilots were killed in the crash.

Whoa, I wondered why The Weather Channel said LaGuardia was closed. Air travel sure is a mess these days. We've become so used to flying around, this is bound to happen. Hard to believe a 30 mph crash would kill the pilots. Cost of a modern society.

I have seen reports saying 30mph, 24mph, and that the plane was going 104 mph at the time of impact. That does not look like a 30mph crash. I would place half the blame on the driver for not slowing or stopping before crossing the runway. That should be a safety requirement regardless if there was approval from the tower.201 Thanks this.

The problem is the fire truck got clearance from the either the control tower or ground control to proceed across the runway, and depending on what angle the fire truck was headed at in comparison to where the plane was coming in for a landing at might not have seen it but then the controllers realized their screw up and yelled to stop, but by then it was too late. It’ll be interesting to see how shorthanded that tower and the ground control area was at the time. Does this happened because the reports are the New York area airports? They’ve been having those problems here lately routinelyNumb Thanks this.

This incident due to overworked air traffic controllers. Unfortunately Trump administration cost cutting gutted air traffic control as too many unnecessary staff
