The Cryo Hauler Thread

PShaw...Messer was 42 an hour, everything after 40 hrs was time and a half.

No way would I do Cryo for minimum wage, that works out to .55 cpm weekly.

 

I’m debating on whether we should just up and move to Houston. And hopefully land a cryo gig that way. Since I’ll be local to the area vs trying to apply from out of state. I called these recruiters and they say that the hiring managers usually prefer applicants to already be local to the area.

I would like to have a gig lined up before I move out there but at this point I’m not getting anywhere with me be out of state. Even then, I know it’s not guaranteed that I’ll be able to land a gig while I’m out there.

 

I was able to move to Houston with a gig several years back. I'm mentioning years back because that's when so many places was hiring. And they use to tell me the same thing. He's going to hire drivers that live here before he even thinks of bringing you in. Well he hired me. And I moved to a booming economy at the time.

However I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MOVING TO HOUSTON, TX WITHOUT A JOB CURRENTLY!!!! AS A CDL HOLDER YEA YOU WOULD EVENTUALLY FIND SOMETHING BUT IT MIGHT NO BE WHAT YOU WANT. AND THE PAY MIGHT NOT WORTH SITTING IN TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE JOB!!! I look at all the construction of new HOA neighborhoods, shopping centers, and etc. And say Houston is definitely growing. But the cost of living is growing faster than the city is. Unless you have about $100k in cash savings. Don't even think about moving to the Houston area.

Air Products use to have the directions listed from each airport on the interview email. So I know they were willing to hire drivers that didn't live in the area. And back when I worked at the original Linde (now messer) the manager would hire drivers that never drove A tanker or hazmat before, said she had to hire who ever would take it. And Airgas had a brochure that I will have to find. That they would hire new ppl straight out of CDL school( ppl don't believe me on this, but I know I saw it and they would hire just about anybody). But several companies have changed there hiring practices since then.

Cryo is a decent field to be in. But please don't move to Houston and end up working for a low paying carrier just because you needed a job to make it. There are alot of tanker outfits in Baytown, La Porte, and Pasadena area of Houston. But all of them are not paying 100k plus!!!

 

I’m still working for my current company, I just fly back and forth to work every hitch. If i did move out to Houston, I would still be working until
I can find something local either in fuel or cryogenics
I’m not leaving my current gig until I can find something better.
