    Hi all,
Somehow I missed this section for the first few days.
Anyway, I'm a new guy from Ohio. Did the whole college thing, with the M-F 9-5 job, but always thought driving a truck, or something that got me out and away from it all was more up my alley. I got laid off from work, and while looking for jobs, I kept thinking more and more about just following this dream, and so here I am. Rather than spend my savings account on living while I look for another boring office job, I figure I'm ahead if I spend just part of it on trucking school, and land a job in the field that I'll actually enjoy.
I don't have kids or a wife, and my girlfriend will miss me, but she's very supportive, and would ride with me during her school breaks, too.
Already learned quite a bit on the site.

    Welcome Jnm,

I am KH, a greeter. It is my honor to welcome you to one of the greatest trucking networking sites a trucker has in his tool belt. I understand where you are coming from and with the whole college thing. A lot new drivers who got laid off have a degree or certificate from a college. What companies are you looking at??? I would advise you to look over "Questions from New Drivers" as it covers a lot of threads that a greenhorn or inexperienced driver might ask.

Also if you are looking for a job or want to post job wanted ad, please post it here:

Enjoy your stay and do not be afraid to ask any questions about this industry. Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Honestly, it seems like all the companies that I see advertising for new drivers, are the ones that most on this board say to avoid. I'm guessing I'll probably just have to take what I can get, at least until I get my year in. Ideally, I'd like a company that spends quite a bit of time in the western half of the country, but I don't know how realistic that goal is.
    Thanks for the welcome!

I have heard nothing but positive things about Schneider National. Also try Transport America and Maverick and USA truck.

Thanks for the companies to check. One question, is it better to apply to these places on my own, or let the job placement person at my school take care of all of the applications for me?

My experience is do it yourself. Yes the job placement people are great but sometimes you just got to take the bull by the horns and go with the flow if you get my jist. If want me to I can go into depth more.
