They're turning some dead malls in California into mixed-use communities with apartments/condos and retail but I imagine rent will be $2,000+ per month for a one bedroom at least.

That would be downright ridiculous. My mortgage is $1200,and that’s for a 2 bedroom,1 and 1 1/2 bathroom,one car garage condo-with a finished basement!
