Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

I'm completely convinced -- that ALL those tractors....work perfectly....everywhere...ALL the time....in every possible situation.

"Everything Is Eventual"_ Stephen King
The autonomous trucks don't have to outnumber CMV drivers in order for things to take a drastic turn. Once there are enough of them operating on the roads, the drivers who aren't willing to integrate the system in their workflow won't be paid as much the ones that are. It's going to augment our jobs for some time before it ultimately replaces us. I can't be one of those "it won't happen in our lifetime" naysayers when it's already happening in real time. The automation of the transportation fields is inevitable @lual

Too many questions....
Too many "what if" situations....
Too much potential litigation --
BUT NOOOOooooo "SCAPEGOAT" DRIVER!!!

I can't wait to watch all those Perry Mason/Ben Matlock/Denny Crane courtroom moments...

RockinChair Thanks this. -
The only ones that have to worry are the ones who are unwilling to do more than hold a steering wheel.
Ain't gonna see these trucks do anything more than pull boxes on pavement.sirjeff, RockinChair, PSM379 and 2 others Thank this. -
What i see happening is these will replace box vans and reefers at best. And thats assumeing one of these dont cause a mass casualty event. Hell can you imagine someone hacking one of these full of something nasty and crashing them into say a school. Perhaps they cause a multi hundred vehicle pileup in adverse conditions. What happens when theives figure out they can throw say a garbage can into the front of one on a rural road so it stops and rob it blind. There is no driver and no witnesses esepcially if they use jammers and say set it on fire after. So much less risky crime.
Maybe they will replace drivers. But it wont be soon and it wont be as painless as the doom and gloomers seem to want to pretend.Blu_Ogre Thanks this. -
I can be because by the time it affects the whole industry I'll be long gone.BrothaTrucka513 Thanks this.

I think you'll still be around @wulfman75
The future is now -
Containers would be another market segment to add there.
I am expecting automated transfers from Ports and rail yards moving things to and from nearby distribution centers and freight forwarders to be a significant first use. Stuff like this points to that....
MSNRockinChair and BrothaTrucka513 Thank this. -
I'm willing to bet that it will work like the autopilot does on jumbo jets. The autonomous system will only be used while the truck is on a limited-access highway, and the driver will have to actually drive the truck on surface streets and in parking lots.
And there are certain kinds of trucking that automation will never be able to replace. Oversized, DoD, fuel, oilfield, construction, etc.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.
