My dad just totaled his 24 year oold truck, and bought a beater 2011 impala with 230000 miles for $3500 I couldn't believe that was a good price, started looking around at "beaters" and could not believe that is considered cheap now, my last beater was a square body ranger that I bought for $900 drove it for 3 years, and if it wasn't a rust bucket I woulda kept it because I love those body style rangers when it blew up. This was before that cash for clunkers BS that Obama did in like 2009, that pretty much wiped out the old beater market and raised the price on everything old.

At one point I considered it. I've looked at a couple auction vehicles and went home to bid online but even those are going for double what they should be. Last auction truck I looked at I'd have bid up to $3k for until I opened the hood and saw the milkshake in the rad. With 300k km on the clock that instantly made that a $500 truck because at that mileage I know its not just going to be head gaskets. More than likely it'd be a $3-5k engine job. Winning bid was $3k.

Working on vehicles just ain't fun like it used to be. I'm not 18 anymore where I had all the time to fix things. Barely have an hour to relax most week days, be even less in a couple weeks once the seeds start going in the ground.
