    Hey guys!

I have an ISX 15 CM871, last week the starter went out. Had it replaced, while the dealer had it they called me and said it would crank but not start after they replaced the starter. Before the starter went out, it would fire up easy. So they did a diag, cleaned sensors etc. Ticket shows from insite engine state not changing from stopped to cranking. They sprayed ether in, fired. Insite shows engine state changed and synchronization. Said I was good to go.

So the next morning, the truck would turn over, but not fire. I tried priming 4 times, still nothing. Hit it with a small shot of ether, fired up. About an hour into the drive, got fuel shut truck off. Fired right back up. Went on about the day. The next morning same thing, no fire without a small shot.

So now the only way this truck will fire after sitting over night (or more than 4 hours or so) is a small shot of ether.

The lift pump comes on and I can hear it. Have fuel squirting out of the port on top of the gear fuel pump, but still no fire after sitting without a shot.

Any Ideas? Bad gear pump? Check Valve?

What is the RPM’s when cranking?
I’m not positive, but I think it has to see a minimum RPM for the injectors to fire.

Was it towed in or did it drive under its own power?

if it was not towed in and made it under its own power, they should be on the hook for the repairs they caused when they replaced the starter.

    Using ether is not good.

Bet the shorted out the electrical system and hopefully only popped a fuse in the battery box or worse case the smoked the ecm? Or maybe they didn’t hook the ecm power back up in the battery box?

The morning the starter went out, hit it with a hammer and it fired right up. Before the starter went out, never had any issues cranking. Now after sitting overnight it just cranks and cranks, once it fires. Runs fine and restarts fine within a few hours of shutdown. Issue only comes up after sitting for more than a few hours.

Will check into that, once the truck does fire in the morning. It runs fine, no issues and will start normal within a few hours. Only after sitting a while will it not fire up.

Sounds like its losing prime.. is it possible they loosened a fuel line or something to gain access to starter and didnt tighten up all the way? Sounds dumb but check everything in the area of the starter
