No I don't,...
Most local drivers I know have never been otr,.....They all started in the construction trades or in sales related driving jobs,...
That's how I did,.........Construction trades first and moved on to a coca cola distributor and then a liquor distributor both of those jobs required much more work with people skills and customer service than anything else,...
Now I'm with the best ltl company on the road as a city p/d driver,......Never went to any stupid school or worked for any dirtball otr company,....
It can be done,....You just have to want it and figure out how,...
It's really not that hard to do,....

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Most bigger towns will have a few locals, and usually one or more have "apprenticeship" programs. Over in Western NY, one of the regional petroleum haulers takes students right out of school and trains them. As well as dump trucks and redi-mix concrete. ANY of those options are better than OTR. There is not a OTR company out there that will take you that pays more than that, once you break down your hours worked versus what you made.
walleye Thanks this. -
AJB get ready for long layoffs and when your unemployment runs out. You,ll be going to jb, just like all the others, just to have a job and insurance. Those are union drivers with 18 plus years in. If your after money, get into the energy field, oil, coal, pipeline, all kinds of jobs including driver jobs.

Those companies arent going out of business or downsizing because of unions. They are doing it because of JB Hunt, et al....already gone Thanks this.

there are union jobs hiring, they aren't going out of business or downsizing because of jb hunt, they might have been a year ago when the economy was tighter, things are getting better around buffalo at least. JB hunt does creep me out though, every time i see one of those #### daycabs its like "great, another good job gone"......
And I stand by getting into concrete redi mix trucks, dump trucks, or something else that you DON'T see JB Hunt doing. -
I got a job with pepsi bottling group in canada with no experience driving and it is union 25 dollars an hour straight days
already gone Thanks this. -
JB Hunt doesn't hire people with no experience.

thats awesome! i applied for a pepsi delivery-bay truck position..i actually got an email yesterday saying congratulations, you are scheduled for a phone interview..had the phone interview today, i guess i did ok, they are scheduling for me a face to face interview next week..what do you think the chances are for me to get this job? i'm just like you, no experience, but i have my class a cdl. and also..you work straight days?? does that mean 7 days a week? and wow 25 dollars an hour, that's great. they told me i'd start out at 10 dollars an hour, but that's ok with me. maybe it's just different in canada. i'm in arkansas by the way..
