When you say a brokerage company running it do you mean a court appointed or a outside broker?

Me thinks this will go the same way as many other sons who have taken over their dads trucking company.

No matter what happens I can say that you are starting out in a better position then most because most small companies like that die when the ownership dies. The fact that you have drivers that stuck with it after the owners death when it was in limbo says it does have a hope. Maybe if its an option you should continue to let the ones that ran it run it a while longer while you can settle in and learn everything you need to know.

Not sure if the OP will check back in on this.

Basic thing I would be looking for from new owners is competence and level of involvement.
I will assert that an MBA is less valuable than used toilet paper for most companies with less than 1000 employees.
I'll take street smarts over book smarts every single time.

Generic perspective for an employee at a company that has been acquired/taken over/consolidated/merged:
I am not looking for a face book type friend. I need an experienced and COMPETENT management crew so that I can continue to do my job. Any meeting I have with the new owner is a type of interview. More so for me to decide if I want to continue working there. Some time later they will decide if they want to keep me around.

Basic questions I would have as an employee:
Do these new folks have a clue on the federal regulation that control my job?
Could their ignorance/lack of experience/incompetence cost me my license/career?
Will they be around to make important decision? If not, who are the real managers that make the decisions?

Based on the above, Should probably plan on a few weeks on-site (more like a few months or quarters) just to start to get the feel for the people and how things are operating currently. I would plan on a 2 to 3 quarters up front so that the thin veneer of "a smiling face cause the bosses are in town" gets worn away so you can see whatever potential ugly stuff is under the fast polish. That would also allow the experience of 3 or 4 day "home time" once a month.

This can’t be a real post .Someone posting they don’t know how to meet people that they pretend they
employee. And the idea they have is let me pretend I care so much for them that I will get a load that will bring them to me so I can waste there time and make them hang out with me.

Hello! An outside broker has been running it for the last 3.5 years while its been tied up in the courts.

We most certainly can let that continue...I simply want some suggestions of how to introduce myself to the truckers and ways to let them know we are so happy and grateful they kept with things. My husbands father had a wonderful relationship with them and we intend to carry this on!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
A broker has been managing everything for the past 3.5 years and we intend to keep things as is.

I was just hoping to see what people thought would be an appropriate/thoughtful way for us to let them know that things have settled in the courts and we appreciate them sticking by through the years. I would wreck this entire thing in 2 seconds flat....I know nothing!
Just want to be a good human because in my opinion...all 6 of them staying on for 3.5 years speaks a lot to the relationship they had with my husbands father and speaks volumes of how wonderful they are.

Thanks again for your kind reply!

THANK YOU for this kind reply!

We are starting out in a wonderful position and we don't take that for granted for one second.
I appreciate you realizing that these 6 amazing humans have stuck around for 3.5 years...that speaks volumes to what kind of relationship they had with my husbands father and how they feel about their career.

I would wreck all of this in 2 seconds flat because I know nothing and we do intend to continue having the same folks who have been running it continie to do so.

I have been eagerly awaiting the day when we could legally get in touch with them and open a line of communication!

My intent of the post was to seek others opinions of how I might be able to do that in a kind and thoughtful way because we are so appreciative of them continuing to work when this has been such a mess!

I have zero intentions of swooping in and changing anything or act like I know a thing.
Just wanted to know what would be meaningful to them and their families.

Thanks again for your reply and time

Hello! An outside broker has been running it....we intend to keep that as is.

My intentions behind my post were to get a sense of what would be a nice way to just say hello now that we can communicate with them.

I see 6 amazing humans who have stuck with this company because they had such a good relationship with my husbands father who passed suddenly. That kind of friendship, commitment and loyalty is priceless.

I know nothing and would wreck all this in 2 seconds flat. We intend to change nothing as long as they are happy with things....I just wanted to know what would be a thoughtful way for us to introduce ourselves, meet them and simply thank them for carrying the load in more ways than one the past 3.5 years.

    Thanks again.....
