This crap is coming so fast and nobody has any clue what to do about it. They’re not even talking about it. Forklift drivers and most warehouse workers got a couple of years left. OTR drivers we still got some time. But it isn’t unlimited. It’s going to get real, real quick out there.
I keep up on all the latest with AI, automation, etc and this is something we really should all be discussing. For the record, I don’t like it. None of it. But it’s happening, like it or not.

they say we’ll get to a point where basically 90% of everything is done by automation and artificial intelligence, and we’ll just collect the universal income. First of all, I think that’s a bunch of hogwash but even if it’s not what about the transition years? When unemployment hits 20% then a few years later it hits 30% then a few years later it hits 50% those are gonna be some very ugly years before we reach this great utopia that these developers tell us will happen. I personally question the motive behind the people at the top developing this stuff. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

One of the drivers I know picked up at a fully autonomous warehouse w/ no people inside it a few years back. It took the driverless forklifts almost 8 hours to load his truck, but I'm sure they've improved their performance by now.
Won't be too long before trucking companies invest in a fleet of AVs and use drivers as the fail safe until they eventually don't need them. In the near future, the trucking jobs that actually need drivers are gonna become a lot more scarce... and will probably pay peanuts

@Lennythedriver the top could care less about the bottom

Well the Chinese actually built a port that was automated. @Chinatown actually posted the thread here somewhere.
    If that’s any indication,times are a changing!!
Personally, I prefer to keep humans in the loop, someone has to be there to turn the thing off if something goes wrong!

Yeah, Chinese Ghost Ports, only takes less than a dozen people to run a giant size port.
    Here's two of them:
