Hub/zip/practical it doesn't matter. In the end drivers will make the same amount with any of those as companies adjust the rate to get their desired outcome reguardless of the system.

Besides being 'paid by the mile' is not as accurate a statement as being 'paid by the hour' is. By the mile drivers are paid for one piece of work at a time, just one by one.

The problem that I see is that your not paid for everything that you do while on duty and in the service of your company.

That’s why I enjoy getting paid by the hr. Get paid for everything I do except my 10hr break.

How am I not? I am a piece worker, not a time worker. I agree to deliver a load. I am paid to deliver that load. All the details of completing the load are provided by me and I am paid a lump some. The amount I am paid is determined by how many miles the load is times a dollar amount.

I am not actually paid 'by the mile' like the common 'paid by the hour' crowd is. I am paid by the piece, the piece being a load.

But if you're not moving your time is essentially worthless and delays to your time don't matter to anyone other than you. You eat the cost of the inefficiency there. Getting paid a little of both, mileage + hourly for non driving, is the best of both worlds and eliminates that inefficiency.

I am paid $24.50 per stop in addition to the mileage rate pay. That solves that issue.

The best part of piece work/mileage rate pay is the freedom I have. I am assigned a load with a deadline. I decide things like when to leave, when to stop, and when to take a break. I couldn't imagine having an assigned start or reporting time to 'clock in'.

Reguardless piecework is just as fair as hourly work. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.

Folks should consider mileage rate pay as being a fair way of being compensated for their labor. All I am saying is give piece a chance. :D

Of course I'm talking about from a company drivers perspective.
