That's a bunch of horse pucky. The only reason average life expectancy was so low is because infant mortality was much higher than today. Think about it, for every child that died before their first birthday you've got to have one adult reach 80 to have an average of 40. 200 years ago the most common cause of death for women was childbirth. It wasn't diet that was killing people, it was primarily the lack of proper hygiene, modern sanitation and antibiotics. Take a look at our founding fathers for example, the ones that survived the revolution generally lived until well into their 60's and quite a few into their 80's. At the time of death Thomas Jefferson was 83, Ben Franklin was 84 and John Adams was 90.

Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and John Adam's were part of the wealthy elite. Normal people back then were fortunate to see 40. Malnutrition was pretty common back in the the good ol days.

My point is that people weren't dying young because of what they ate, my point is that "average life expectancy" is a manufactured number that doesn't actually mean anything. Malnutrition isn't something the vast majority of Americans deal with today, if anything, we suffer from way too much food, as evidenced by the 40%+ of Americans that are overweight or obese. This is a problem that by and large didn't exist 50 years ago. Meat, eggs and butter don't make us fat and sick, the highly processed and chemically laden crap that we consume do. We eat way too much crap and don't move nearly enough. If we just ate the clean foods that our grandparents and great grandparents recognized as food and not the laboratory concocted "food-like substances" we currently shovel down our gullets, our bodies would fix themselves. Of course, if we actually did that, then Big Food and Big Pharma wouldn't be able to profit so handsomely at our expense.

My grandparents ate bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, tomatoes, potatoes, all kinds of fruits and vegetables. They ate processed foods too. Ever heard of souse meat? My grandfather loved that stuff. Country ham, good ol processed country ham with lots of healthy nitrates Mmmmmm. Lots of artery clogging and plenty of carb foods Loved fried potatoes. Lived to be 80. Eat whatever you want it ain't gonna matter for most people. Youre predisposed to whatever is ailing you. If eating picky makes you feel better and happy, have at it.

I am not much for doing things that make a mess in the truck so I use an extension cord plugged into the inverter and my electric skillet on the cat walk for things like this.
