I don't think the OP will ever be back. Most likely screaming at the screen about how we don't know what we are talking about and going to go ahead with their plans.

I think we ran the op off!!! Let him learn!!!! Hope they have money stacked up. Imagine what would happen if they ran the first load same day truck breaks down and the motor needs an overhaul. Now that would be entertaining ide feel for the driver though

I worked for a guy who did exactly what the OP was suggesting and he experienced the complete failure of the emissions system of the truck he had purchased. Nice guy, tried his best. In the end I was out of job, he was out of a business.

Way late here, thread from May '24. MVTRUCKING, did you ever pull the trigger? For anyone reading this in 2026, here's what bit me when I tried the "hire a driver" model: driver retention. Good drivers don't want to babysit a truck for an owner who's never been behind the wheel.

What helped me keep my first driver was making his life easy. I use CurbWaste for dispatching and load tracking, driver logs into a simple mobile view, sees where he's going, and I can generate an instant proof of delivery. He stays happy because he's not waiting on me for paperwork.

You'll need a dispatcher or use a load board. Without a CDL, you can't jump in if the driver quits, that's your real risk. Have a backup driver lined up before you buy the truck.
