I have a trailer with the meritor inflation system. If I set the pressure to 120 will it allow the pressure to rise to say 130 when the tire warms up, or does it bleed off pressure to maintain 120?

I had two trailers with the Hendrickson Tire Max inflation system 2016 and 2022. They were only to air a system up and not deflate any air. In 2023 when I ordered another trailer I had the option of getting a Hendrickson Tire Max Pro for several hundred dollars more than the Tire Max. The Pro also let air out when the tires warmed up. I got the Pro system because it seemed like a great upgrade to me. Not sure about your system but that option is currently available on Hendrickson systems.Last edited: Apr 6, 2026 at 10:25 PM
Oxbow and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
interesting, so there are options.
Personally I wouldn’t want it letting any air out. In the summer time you need to let the pressure build. Especially when heavy. The lower the pressure, the more the tire flexes every revolution, the more heat is produced. Heat causes tires to fail. Summer pressures should reach 140 or higher when warm. If the inflation system bleeds the pressure then that’s not good. -
I guess we have different ways of doing things then. I believe a more consistent pressure helped in my operation and thus opted for the system that kept a more constant pressure. In my opinion some extra pressure was good but in my tires that didn’t let air out in 90&100 degree temps they had way too much air in them according to my TPMS. I only have one year of use with the new system but all tires seem to wear better than the other two trailers.Last edited: Apr 6, 2026 at 10:45 PM
Oxbow, gentleroger and krupa530 Thank this. -
You have to disregard the tpms when it’s giving you a high pressure alarm. Tire manufacturers don’t post max pressures. Tires can hold 100s of psi safely. You will have far more problems running lower pressures than running higher pressures.

I track and document tire wear religiously and can only speak from my point of view. If I order another trailer it will have the Tire max Pro.Oxbow Thanks this.

Tire Max Pro you set the initial pressure and the max pressure.
Factory setting is 10 PSI over initial before it starts bleeding off.
If you just raise the initial above factory you have to raise the max also or it will add/bleed air all the time.Oxbow and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
I bought a truck with these already installed. They were factory set at 110 psi.Everytime I checked the pressure it was 120.Tires were Michelin Supersingles. The tires had 9/32 when I bought the truck, ran it for a year and replaced the drives when they got down to 5/32 and winter was approaching, put 100,000 miles on them.Tire wear was good the whole time.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Had those on my drives for over 10 years and they really worked well for me. They were a little hassle when having tire work done if the tire tech wasn’t knowledgeable and familiar with them.Oxbow Thanks this.
