Kind of a new driver. I cant get a decent driving job because "insurance" requires at least 2 years experience. I drove Roll off trucks for 2 years, 20 years ago. Got into law Enforcement retired and want to return to driving. I've had 6 months recently driving a dump truck, I finished truck driving school that I paid for myself and I cant get into a truck. I've had several offers to drive but they can't because of insurance. I don't want to drive one of those burnout companies that will hire me like swift, Werner, etc. that gets you out there and you never get home. I've talked to several drivers that have worked for those companies that burn you out. Anyone know how to change the insurance policy of two years, or how to get around that so I can enjoy the life of driving.

If you do your research, there are more companies than the two you named taking recent grads, and probably better companies as well. Keep in mind, the posts on here probably only represent about one percent of the drivers actually working at a given company. One driver's experience may not be your experience and so forth. BUT, if you have many different posters saying very similar negative things, your red flag should go up on a given company.
It also depends on what you are expecting out of a company. There are some companies hiring out of your area (I believe) that have some pretty good reviews in this forum. Check the company DAC reports, follow some of the threads. Two companies off the top of my head that I believe is hiring in your area are Watkins & Shepard and May. Both seem to have more positive than negative. Keep in mind, you will probably hear something negative about every company. If you were in law enforcement, then utilize your detective and reasoning skills to find what you are looking for. I am not trying to be harsh, it just takes more than asking for some people's opinions in a forum to find where you want to go. And read, read, read as much as you can in this forum.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
honestly werner will get you home and has some of the best policies for drivers like you of any of the big boys. But you're looking for a smaller outfit, maybe local, atleast locally based, maybe even union, right?
as far as getting home at werner, they just let me swap trucks to get home "on time"..but they consider on time to be any time before midnight the day you want home..hah. this after sitting in a shop for a week.
i dont blame you for not wanting to come here to werner.
even if you do end up at a big company, after a year, you'll be cool to go anywhere you want. -
Heck, I just reapplied to Werner, cause I've been out from behind the wheel for two years (due to a couple of incidents), and now everyone wants me to have recent experience. Two years ago, nobody would touch me due to the incidents. Talk about a catch-22 situation.
