Why do cops harass truck drivers that are shut down off ramps that are right next to truck stops?

You know there are still some good professionals out there who aren’t the type drivers we dislike. I agree with a lot of what you said and it is part of the reason I retired. I miss my rig and trucking most days, but I don’t miss the trucking of 2026, I miss the trucking of 1987-2002 or so, but that and my 20 something body are not ever coming back! In September of 1987 when I climbed up in the cab of that old worn out Consolidated Freightways Freightliner with no power steering, radio or air ride, I thought I had struck gold! And I felt that way for many years.

Right. You hear drivers complaining about restroom access at certain shippers and receiving…why was that access denied? Parking at Walmart…what happened? A couple inconsiderate pricks ruined a parking lot and now you can’t park to grab groceries.

These guys want to sit here and point fingers at cops. Without a written law cop has no authority to enforce anything. If you have to deal with a picklebrain cop, thank a picklebrain driver that brought about the law.

Times sure have changed. In the Badger, it was no big deal, in fact, a cop would much rather see you taking a nap on a ramp, than struggling along falling asleep while driving. The biggest problem with off ramps was engine brakes, and on ramps was hammer down with straight pipes. Strange, before distracted driving, I don't ever recall anyone plowing into a parked semi. I wouldn't trade the "good ol' days" for anything today.:p

Ask the cops. How are we supposed to know the answers to conversations we didn't have? Maybe the parked trucks are blocking you seeing the No Parking signs?
Were you the guy upset car drivers were allowing cops to search their cars? If so, why are you trying to borrow trouble from other people's problems?

It's state law in most of the country that's why ... maybe look up the law before assuming you can park on the ramp..if there's a truck stop go into the truck stop.duuuhhh

Even cops have bosses, and most bosses demand certain things happen because bosses also have bosses. Don't volunteer for tickets and you get fewer tickets.

I can count on one hand how many times I parked on a ramp (in a state that allowed it) in my eight years of OTR. And those were on-ramps with large shoulders that made it possible to get completely out of the roadway, where the vehicles using the ramp were moving a whole lot slower than the folks exiting the highway onto the off-ramp.

Parking on an on-ramp isn’t a great option. Parking on an off-ramp is no option at all.
