Unfortunately, I didn’t catch it. I was informed of the faux pas two days later. Just got a hand slap and a word of caution.

Walmart sent me an onboarding starting date for the end of end of this month. Which I can’t make to due my schedule. Really trying to decide if I should take it or not.

Also, how accommodating is Walmart with their onboarding dates? I’m two weeks into my six week hitch.

They're flexible. Talk with your recruiter about it.

As tough as it was, I ended up turning down Walmart. After thinking it through, I realized it could hurt my long term goals. Taking a dry van position would mean stepping away from tanker work, and if a local fuel opportunity came up, I’d be lacking recent tanker experience. On top of that, it could come across as job hopping on my resume.
In the end, I decided it made more sense to stay with my current company running tankers and keep my experience relevant for the type of job I actually want. It also keeps my work history solid while I wait for the right opportunity something worth leaving my current employer for.

It would've been worth leaving for. The perks here go on and on but you have to do what you think is best and good luck. As time goes by they'll be hiring less and less outside experienced drivers. If I hazarded a guess I'd say in 10 years they won't be hiring any at all, maybe sooner. They're having good luck with their "associate to driver" program filling driving jobs internally and spending a lot of money to ramp that up in a bigger way.

In your opinion it might have been worth the move but you have to respect his decision to stay as a tanker yanker. Walmart might be a great driving job for most but if it does not fit his goal it is his decision and I respect him for it.

I respect your commitment to being a tanker yanker and turning down a great job at Walmart. You have a strong character for being a tanker driver and you should be applauded for your dedication to your goals.

48Packard and Brown Moose Thank this.

I wish you continued success. You obviously thought this through and made a decision based on things beyond the here and now. Keep us posted, and safe travels!

I wished him the best. Lots of talk about freight being slow around the forums. Meanwhile they've been offering $275 extension bonus for volunteers to work a 6th day since about mid February now. We only got about a 4 week break of that from mid January to mid Feb. It won't be ending anytime soon. We'll probably get a little break from that near the end of summer but the paychecks will keep paychecking the same every time.

Is that $275 plus your normal pay or just a base pay?
