It's actually 5 weeks for inexperienced drivers and 3 weeks with experience
-
Neither of those times will be long enough to be halfway competent
lual and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
In your professional opinion -- how many weeks of training is in fact long enough to later be competent?
Which fleet(s) (if any) provide training that is long enough?

I think it's the quality of the training as much as the duration. I never felt comfortable with my training hauling fuel.
My first trainer was a totally awesome dude and a real good trucker, but not a great teacher. My second one was a total rectal orfice, a very good fuel hauler and a terrible teacher. There was no standardization to the training, just get carded at six different racks and get going.
When I switched to cryo the only other driver knew nothing, and couldn't teach, and was a raging sociopath on a personal level. I learned CO2 from a few plant operators and drivers @ Linde. They were all highly competent and good human beings.
The program you're learning under and the person teaching you makes all the difference.
