I gotta say. I miss my old truck because it was absolutely sorted out and looked really nice. BUT this 12.7l seems like a great engine. It is the first one I have had. I was just up in the rockies last week and this thing performed amazing. It does have 4.10s which is helpful in the mountains. But this 12.7 pulled better, stayed cooler and the Jake's performed better than my N14. The only difference is the engine and the rear ends are 4.10 now vs 3.73. Fuel mileage is around 7.5 versus 6.5. Parts are cheaper. It stays cooler on every load than the N14. I often had problems keeping it cool. I gotta say I am a fan of the Detroit. I had an ISX, N14 and now this 12.7l. ISX had insane power because I had it tuned. But other than that this 12.7l is better than both in my opinion. Time will tell obviously but I have really liked it so far.

IMG_7126.png I really liked mine and may buy another one.
I had the Pittsburgh Power Box on mine and it pulled awesome with it. The extra HP prematurely ages it but I got 815,000 before I inframed it for oil consumption. In my opinion if it had made it to a million without the extra power I still would want the HP.

I won't be tuning any trucks ever again after my ISX lol. The power was AWESOME. (625hp) But it made the head gasket weep coolant extremely prematurely. I could pull a full load up a hill and pass an empty truck. But not worth the cost of the engine aging so quickly. I am really impressed with the 12.7l. this one has around 500hp and I assume 1650 torque. With the 4.10s I don't miss the 200 extra torque. Engine supposedly has 100k on an overhaul. It does seem to run pretty good.

I will definitely get the Pittsburgh Tune if I get another Series 60. I don’t drive fast but I do like to pull the hills. The FASS fuel system made a noticeable difference on mine and I will get another.

I am a big fan of the fass or airdog systems. I had a air dog on my previous truck. I will get another one at some point. Might do the fass cause I believe they can hold a bigger filter. Currently have a Davco and I hate them. No clue why people like them.

I had the FASS on it from new “Glider” and really liked it. It was nice to be able to change fuel filters without having to preload the filters with diesel if you needed to change the filters on the road. I can’t say that they helped but Fleet Air Filters definitely changed the sound of my turbo which made me feel it helped.

On the N14 it helped massively. Those injectors are really picky compared to most engines.

I just bought another truck and it has a DDEC 3 in it… I’ve never been in a truck that pulls this hard… it’s kinda spooky even.

I had an ISX and a DDEC 5 that I think is kinda hurt. Both were / are set at 500hp… There’s no way either compares to this DDEC 3. I have another truck with super low mileage and an N14… I think I’m pulling the N14 and putting the Detroit in it?

I grew up hearing how great and bulletproof the N14 was....I honestly didn't have that great of an experience with it. I always had injector issues and seemed like it was always hard to get decent ones, plus my first one unexpectedly locked up on the highway lol. My ISX ate bolt on parts like crazy. Was constantly spending 500 here or there on stuff. We will see how the Detroit does but so far parts are much cheaper than expected. If only the rest of this freightliner didn't fall apart after I put 10k miles on it! Hahaha all sorted now though.

We've come a long ways with Deeetroits. New Detroits are awesome. I drove a friend's FL Columbia , 500 Detroit, 13, 3:55s, and that truck would do 70 mph down and up with a load, IN 12th! That truck would do 100, I bet. That truck had 850,000 miles and never opened up. Us old timers simply can't forget their roots,,,my ears still ring, we never had those wussy ear protectors,,,what'd he say??:director:,:dontknow:
    They did pretty good bobtail,,
