To clear things up, I already have my Class A license. I’m considering a year of OTR/Regional because I know that tractor trailer experience is more valuable in the trucking industry Compared to Class B experience. I like my current company. I get good benefits and 40–60 hours a week with OT. I have nothing bad to say about them and I definitely plan to stay here for a while. I just wanted some insight on if it’s worth leaving someday to get the experience. I know OTR is a whole different ball game. I know getting that tractor trailer experience is also achievable by staying local, it’s just a little harder. I say that I wanted to haul fuel because I heard that’s where the money is at and I wanna make a lot of money but I don’t want the expenses of a owner operator
Thanks for the advice

Man you got some really good info in this thread. A lot of people showed up to give you advice, which is what you asked for.
I can't give you an exact answer but I can tell you if I was 20 again, I'd dream big.
I never really see any fuel haulers that look all that happy. Maybe it's because I see them when they're dropping fuel so they're concentrating....
Also I don't personally think the money is all that great. I make more than most fuel haulers and I'm pulling groceries right now as a company driver. My gross every week is consistently over 2500 and I hit over 3000 regularly. Plus I get 10 weeks off per year.
I've got about 18 months experience, 6 with current company. I'm still OTR but I have a weird job. My first year I quit 4 trucking jobs and moved twice. Point is don't be scared to make a change if you're looking for something different.
There's no actual rules on how you have to live your life. You can just do things, regardless of what anyone else has to say.
I think it's great you're on this particular forum asking for your specific advice.Last edited: Apr 15, 2026 at 8:56 PM
Lonesome and BrothaTrucka513 Thank this. -
Two thoughts ...
1 - I would stay where you are. Life isn't all that great as an OTR/class A driver. If you have to leave, wait until you are 21, get your HAZMAT endorsement, and apply for fuel delivery, like for Locomotives. Stay local, enjoy life.
2 - I know many drivers, I have never known mixer drivers to have much if any, slow times, but OTR/Regional, even in fuel delivery ... yes.Lonesome, lual and BrothaTrucka513 Thank this. -
I don't recommend any places I know nothing about because I don't wanna blow smoke up anyone. You can't trust everything in the advertisements. If all you're doing is entering zip codes in the search, just guide them to job search page and allow them to do it themselves... instead of spamming, Mr. Chinaspam

One more thing about fuel delivery. When you start, you're going to have the worst runs. Weekends, holidays, nights, etc. Also, there are a lot of gas stations that are smaller, and a lot more difficult to get in to. Manuvering around parked cars, pumps, etc.
