Short synopsis. I'm third generation and I've been on the road for 21 years. I work for the same company for 16 years. We are a manufacturer that hauls our own product out but are going to finally start back hauling. I have never had a moving violation or an asphalt accident. I drive like an old man LOL which I basically am now. No one of course wants to use a new MC number because of all the crappy people that just jumped in without knowing anything. I hate to use people like TQL but that seems to be one of the only routes. Any other suggestions?
Who to work with being new?

Shouldn't have a big problem if your manufacturing company is of any size.Siinman Thanks this.

You’re a manufacture, you can’t talk to your customers? You don’t have any contacts? You should have some kind of reputation, why not network yourself & see what you can do? You probably have people who sell your product, hire some to sell your services, & find you freight.

What’s changed cost wise? I imagine cargo insurance? That’s not very expensive. Work with anyone that’s willing. There’s plenty of smaller Brokerages that don’t have absolute guidelines to follow. It will take a bit of explaining and possibly proof to confirm your being honest. Pretty soon the rest will find you. An inspection or two helps. Shows them your an actual Carrier, as opposed to someone posing and double brokering freight. Meanwhile your’e not really losing anything.

Thank you that is exactly what I needed. I know everyone else tried to help but most of that just didn't fit the way we do things. Our customers are small independent shops. They do not ship stuff all over the country most of their product that they sell get shipped by the manufacturer they buy it from. I think these guys was thinking this was big manufacturing companies. We make car trailers. I was not sure if we had to age the MC another year or what. Most of this will be back call stuff definitely not 100% of our business but at least 30%. It's just another leg that our company can stand on instead of just coming all the way back to the shop empty. We will definitely be doing load board stuff and I had never used a load board so I wasn't sure about the unwritten rules I guess you would say. All the negotiation stuff I'll be fine we had because 80% of the dealers that sell our product wasn't negotiation through me it's not like I'm just a steering wheel holder lol. I didn't want to just waste time calling the wrong brokers and half of the conversation would be wasted once I give them our MC number. The owner split the company into two and now the shipping side we just made a trucking company out of so he just got a new DOT number also. I'm pretty sure we can't get it back but I did not tell him anything different because I didn't think these Brokers actually looked at your dot just your MC. Again thank you that pretty much told me everything I needed to knowRideandrepair Thanks this.
