A few.
I was a trainer first. But the gym I started in was one of those dungeon types where half the guys were prison jacked because they were fresh out of prison and the other half because they worked out in a gym where the workouts were for prison jacked guys.
Dungeons are dark, small, unfriendly and loud. Because they were small we had to share equipment. So there’s ALWAYS a spotter. Since you had a spotter, you could push yourself much harder. You know how they say train to failure?Failure comes when the muscle gives out on the negative rep. For example, in bench press, the negative rep is when you are lowering the weight to your chest. Failure is no longer able to control lowering the weight. Without a spotter, this is potentially lethal.

Modern gyms are bright and colorful and library quiet. No spotter. I’d see guys trying really hard, but unable to train to failure because of no spotter. I would offer to spot. Personal trainers got pissed and complained. Management accused me of training. I would be working out with a group, they wanted the dungeon workout. I reviewed the members contract with management and asked, “Where does it say that I can’t work out with others and not to spot them?” Management offered me a job as a trainer and I went through their certification process. But I didn’t like the way they wanted me to train people because it was plain stealing.
The Personal Trainer Scam
Huge scam. People pay top dollar for a useless fruity workout. But the membership was free, swimming pool, showers, and a steam room (there’s very few pleasures in life that are better than the steam room.). I quit training and took the night time desk job 2 nights a week. And of course, the stupid conversation with the operations manager every morning. She’s not going to call out the slackers on first, and she doesn’t have the spine to fire me. Completely ineffective.
