Sap driver with no experince

Why do you want to do this so badly? Honestly, so few carriers will take a chance on you at this point that it is probably not a productive use of your time to keep looking. Even if you found one, it probably wouldn't be anybody you'd want to drive for. They won't pay you good, that much is guaranteed, and they will probably do sketchy stuff like cheat your logs, which will be the death blow to your career when you get caught.

Maybe so. If he's got nothing invested in this yet, other than a few grand for the CDL, I'd say the rational decision is to just try something else. It'd be different if he'd been doing this for years and he knew for sure he could hack it and he just screwed up. Why start a new career with such a serious handicap? That's honestly the advice I'd give a friend.

Your biggest hurdle is a lack of experience. I'm not for certain if a pre-employment test goes into the clearinghouse, but for the sake of this conversation, we will assume so. Here's the reality: by law, a company isn't supposed to hire a driver that has had a drug or alcohol event (positive drug tests, DUI, DWI, OWI, or reported termination for violation of drug or alcohol company/industry standards) for 3 years. Some drivers go through SAP and companies can get by that regulation with relentless drug testing, but that's more headache than its worth for a company. If you had a few years experience, and 3 years had passed, it would be much easier to find you something. With that law, companies are requiring 3 or more years. 3 to 5 is the norm for time lapsed after an alcohol event. There some that want 10 years elapsed time and there are others in which its a permanent disqualification....Ozark, JNJ Express, Barr Nunn, JLE all.come to mind. You'll either have to look around there in Chicago and see if one of those small 1099 companies will hire you, or do something else for 3 to 5 years.

@Chinatown didn't once someone on here say Schnieder wants you to wait 6 months after a failed pre-employment drug screen to apply? That may be his only hope.

Do you recommend registering on Driver Pulse? Some companies monitor that when looking for drivers.

 

I definitely don't think it hurts to register on Driver Pulse. He could also use the job section on here to apply for jobs too. He has to get experience though. I think you told him right to check Craigslist. I think he said he's there in Chicago so if someone will take him, he should hit the road and get some behind the wheel experience.

 

You can't drive without insurance. Unless a trucking company is self insured, the insurance company makes the decision.
