This MF’er is 2 years old this weekend and he’s got my heart just like my old dog Clancy did— they’re out of the same blood line and different but not much— man can only expect to have 1 really good dog in a lifetime and I’m work’n on two of them— I been blessed

You know, I wanted to buy one new truck, and be one of those guys that ran that new truck for the next 40 years, but as time marches along I realize that isn’t gonna happen.
So…I have my “old” 359. I keep fixing it, upgrading it, working it, and I LOVE being able to work on literally every system on that old truck. Engine, trans, wiring, plumbing, brakes, suspension, frame, there ain’t much a half ways competent guy with a reasonable amount of tools can’t handle on his own.
The newest truck I’ve owned was a 2006 with an ACERT Cat in it. Loved that drivetrain, could work on it also, but there are a number of aspects of the new trucks (stuff built from say 2020 on) that make the self fixing it a lot less possible with significant investments in diagnostic equipment etc. Stuff like blind spot assist, automatic braking, adaptive cruise, etc.
So, all that to say, I’ll probably just keep pecking away at my old beater.

 

I can't imagine anything that you could buy new today lasting 40 years.

 

Her and I been around the sun 29 times together. We start our 30th trip tomorrow.
