It's a setting called half mode IIRC. It cuts fuel during warmup. You would notice a change in sound at 125* and 150*.

I think it does cut out half mode when brakes are released. I always waited till I hit 150*. Half mode is programmable in the ECM.

It's used because of the smoke caused by low compression pistons.

I just looked up an old manual online and it said all of this exactly! Very interesting. Have been wondering since I bought this truck if it was some kind of cold start feature or an issue.

I got a new gasket for mine, but it was too big. I cut it at an angle, shortened it to the proper length and no leaks at all.

Sorry. But I just don’t like the 12.7 at all.

I freaking love it!!! What a sweet engine. Completely happy with mine. It really beat my expectations. I got it with a fresh rebuild, so that was even better! I was told to run it a while before changing to AMSOIL (which was great when I used it for a classic Caddy I had). I’m about to change the engine oil and the transmission fluid. Already did the rears and threw new cab air bags on there. Also changed out my fuel tank strap rubber and evened out the tanks.

Mine supposedly has around 100k on an overhaul as well. Starts and runs really good. I run T6 in my rigs. I feel like it is a good balance between cost and oil performance. I have a whole bunch of work scheduled for tonight. Big ones are new air compressor and fuel pump. Cab air ride, wipers, new steering wheel etc etc. I just had to throw two new rear axles in, all ujoints, transmission and clutch as well. Should be good to go for a long time on anything big.

You doing it yourself, or having a shop do it? Anything I can tackle myself I do it. I did not do my king pins and alignment though. KW did them.

I just picked up a new sidebox for my skateboard. That’s the next project.

I had a shop do my transmission and clutch. Mostly cause it was there and I was in a hurry. (I was having some driveline issues that weren't making sense to me. I ended up not needing the transmission. Oh well.) Everything else I do myself. I can do pretty much anything. King pins are pretty easy job if you stay up on greasing. I do my own alignments too ever since I went to multiple shops and they never got the alignment right. I have done basically every mechanical thing you can think of other than overhauls.
