Ummmmm....errrrr....aaaahhhhh....have you been on/driven "the Dragon"?
If you ever have....the ample humor in such incredibly clueless re-routing via Swift (not so "swift" this time) should be rather obvious...

OTR drivers are on the short list.

I know that the ones running right now operate in a geo fenced area only. So I think your scenario is more likely. Essentially, it would operate like an inland port. There is also talk, less so nowadays, of platooning where a human driver leads 2 or 3 driverless trucks. That seems to have died off a bit though. But as I mentioned earlier, predicting this stuff is really a shot in the dark.
-
In my mind platooning made sense when there was talk of it a few years ago. Now it’s not even mentioned any longer.ethos Thanks this.

I used read this exact topic nonstop 10 years ago. Why didn't we all get replaced by now..The automated future is passé
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
My company told me I was going to be replaced by a life like Scarlett Johansson robot. I would have to ride along, because, you know, training. They lied. Hasn't happened. How do I sue them?rollin coal, Speedy356 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

For people to be replaced the technology has to be cheaper than a human. For example, states raising their minimum wage to $20 has caused an increase in automation in the fast food industry. When the technology is available and makes financial sense humans are replaced.
If a fast food place cuts 6 positions that worked 30 hours a week instead of paying them $20 an hour that reduces their payroll by over $180k per year. How much do those kiosks cost? Now it’s moving past the kiosks for ordering and moving into the kitchen area with automation like Flippy. Two of those could replace quite a few humans and further reduce payroll. Just because not all jobs will be replaced doesn’t mean that some jobs won’t be replaced. The easiest segments will be the low hanging fruit. Drop and hook dry van and reefer freight. -
Well said. Even if only 20% of jobs are completely replaced by automation (across all industries) that would be a great depression level of unemployment. We don't have as much time as we think before that level is feasible, the robots and AI as they exist today are only improving and getting cheaper.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Yes -- absolutely!
Nothing unexpected/unplanned ever happens with those freight types, anyway....

VER-RY SOON -- it will officially be time -- to push the "panic" button.

Hopefully we have at least a few more rounds of hilariously wrong predictions. I believe we do, but I don't like the larger trend.
