Thanks for the info. I do smell a rat with that company. I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

Do what's best for you - dont always listen to just one person. Understand that every company has their issues and not one single one is perfect.

Someone who is fired from a company is not always the best source to use. I'm just sayin.........

All of the comments about Millis here are true. They are not even Rumor. Does that mean its a BAD company? - Well good or bad compared to WHO?

MTI School is a weird contract. To slice through all the fluff:

"Awarded a chance to work for Millis" - I asked Mike about that.
I was told it was due to the fact that legally they cannot promise you a job
after MTI....Technically you could finish MTI and have no job I guess...

$5000 is the entire cost of training/school/trainer time.
$2500 is waived IF you give them 1 full year.
The balance is deducted out of each paycheck until paid. They do not
    provide FREE training.

Roehl, on the other hand is cheaper over all and you actually get PAID towards your training costs. I think the payback is over 2-3 yrs (I cant recall the math) but they DO pay you back as you continue to work for them. No so with Millis.

Millis used to be 'the' company. I don't understand what started the downspin.
But the driver that caused the accident in I-80? Two log books. From comments on here that is fairly common and it 'appears' that Millis looked the other way. Well with the electronic logs being MANDATED - that should take care of most of that. Also their SAFERSYS rating isn't so hot.

Is it a bad company? Is it the worst company? - Well..compared to what....

    This from their website.
Now one thing I'm not sure about is if this applies to their school too?I would think it may, but I don't know. Anyone got the answer to that????

The cheaper part of Millis is only the money up front 100 (down) 400(day of start) + 85 (permit before you get there) + food and fuel to get there. =585 + (food & fuel)

Though I am learning that Roehl is not that much more 185 (down) 375 (hotel) 45 (my passport card)+ 85 (permit before you get there) + food and fuel to get there. =645 + (food & fuel)

Roehl says you pass you get hired. Millis does not and even told me that there is no guarantee of a job once done with school. That was the reason I had questions for them. Ultimately why I'm going with Roehl... Would have been nice to go home during training,(Hamilton Ohio is closer to home) but I think I'm glad I was ousted of a spot. Plus I'll eventually get to run my skateboards!:biggrin_25525: Plus no one has complained about the training too much.

But like Baritone and I have said before. You need to do what works for you. Don't throw away a letter because someone here says to. Throw it away if you know its not the right place for you. It also helps to have another confirmed pre-hire or a back up plan. So you may want to hold on to that letter.

Good summation Hindsy - I think the cost is relative to each. If you paid out for school then no reason to go to one that requires you to attend their school. Waist of time. I didnt do the community college or driving school so this was my way in. Yes you pay out for things upfront and along the way - but thats with everyone and most dont tell you what you have to pay until you get there.

It was explained in detail you are hired once you pass your 3 weeks of training. All out paperwork is dated with our expected grad date. If you dont pass stage 1- then youre done. The you have to pass the time with a trainer - but if you dont - they will keep you with a trainer longer if thats what it takes. Have spoken to several new drivers and they all said the same thing. They what they can to help you learn and pass and ultimately get hired. I knew that going in and remain ok with that. If I cant do this job well - then I wouldnt expect them to hire me.

The last 5 drivers I have talked too all have seen more than 3000 miles a week for many months if they want them. So I am hopeful that will continue. Home time has never been an issue if they want it and no real issues. But they have their share of "whinny" drivers and the ones that think every/any company owes them something no matter what. I have never been that way and never will be that way.

We are all in this for ourselves - no matter what we think or say - it's about being able to be happy, safe and to make money no matter what sign is on the door of the tractor.

TD - when do you go to Ohio? The trainer from Ohio is coming here next week to train us. I'll see what he's like and let you know.

CM - you will love Greg. He is very down to earth and has patience of a Saint! The yard is not the nicest place around but serves it's purpose. The Holiday Inn is great and has a full breakfast buffet each morning, just dont expect it to taste like something your Momma would make.

Let me know if you have any questions about Cartersville and I'll gladly pass on what I can.

Oh - when here, check out the sports bar by the yard - best wings I have ever had. (another poster turned me on to them and I was not disapointed)
