Curious as to what the hole is for.

You could use a track down the center for the straps like @Oldman83 has

 

just had to explain to my 7yr old grandson that holes that straight sure as heck don’t come naturally

he was a tad bit confused when I first showed this pic to him

 

There’s this company we haul loads out of, specialize metals that are soft and can’t be crushed. All there company trailer have a track front to back in the center for securement. A bit more worked involved but it works.
