Hello,
Though I'm NOT looking to shift to another company anytime soon, when I do, how should I tailor my applications?
A lot of companies are currently utilizing the generic online Intelliapp for driver applications. In my applications should I put only the companies that show up on my MVR (one trucking position I drove for, a local marching band, doesn't show up on my MVR and it was only a few weekends I drove for them)? And there is one company that shows up on my MVR that I never drove for...R.E. Garrison...
Should I list the yard jockey job that I had for only one month before the company lost the contract? They show up on my MVR, but if I list it it looks like I'm job hopping when in-fact the company lost the position.
And what do I do about a previous trucking company (10 Roads Express) that went under and has no HR to get a hold of AND that didn't keep track of driver accumulations (hours, miles driven, pay)
And what about another marching band that I drive for every summer, should I list that all on one summer or separately for every year (it's a seasonal position)? My boss at the marching band says they are okay with telling future employers I only worked for one summer to make it look as though it's only one job as opposed to multiple jobs.

You read the application and fill it out according to the instructions. So if it asks your past 10 years employers, but not just trucking companies while when it says you need to provide all dot regulated jobs, you put them down.
I ask for everything, there are patterns that I look for, but then most (90%) now use AI to filter applicants so patterns are one thing that gets people’s apps tossed. -
The PSP was a good source of 'finding' employment not listed on the application when the applicant's roadside inspection shows more DOT numbers than the number of employers shown on the actual application.
Used to be ANY employment discrepancy found was immediate denial/termination for 'Falsification'.
People dealing with the processing of part 391 files tend to develop the ability to sense when there is too much that doesn't match and anything that catches their attention will get investigated.
Any local companies will have some interaction at insurance seminars and similar events attended by people with the same responsibilities making phone contacts easy.
All that aside, it is impossible to catch everyone who may 'adjust' some employment dates wanting to hide something.
The first fatal I was involved with was a port driver who was less than honest about his involvement in the accident.
After our insurance settled the claim, I never received any past employment requests for this guy.
I never saw this person even though he was based at the local terminal near the corporate office.
Five years later, I'm at another company and take 3 applications and this guy is part of the group.
Seeing his name, I quickly looked and saw how he showed constant employment with some of the dates adjusted to hide the carrier where he was involved in said fatal accident.
We didn't lease him on but I'm sure he is probably STILL working.tscottme Thanks this. -
It was a 1099 pay...does that have anything to do with it? There was no drug testing involved either...idk. I'm not sure if they reported to Hireright.

Right, so what do I put for the yearly seasonal job since it is only 1 job with only 1 company...do I put the amount of time driving with that company in 1 year or in each year? It's not like I quit that job nor was I terminated...it's ongoing just the same ongoing as a local daycab driver leaving the job Friday afternoon and coming in Monday morning...he didn't quit Saturday-Sunday and then come back...he just didn't work those days.
And going to the AI thing, yeah...I assume that Intelliapp is sorting out and declining my applications based on the number of job entries which is bogus because of 2 companies I worked for losing contracts (Lazer Logistics yard jockey and 10 Roads Express). -
Get your free Hire Right report once a year. SOME trucking companies buy a subscription to Hire Right and read & post entries about their drivers. Other trucking companies DO NOT tell Hire Right anything about drivers. Just read the exact question asked on the application and answer that exact question. I get the impression you are behaving shady for some reason, as if you have something to hide. At some point you may learn living like the cops and the boss are always watching means you don't have to run some complicated operation to find out what they know and then sculpt an application that hides what you want hidden but answers their question. Maybe I misinterpret what I'm reading. I had a little something shady in my past, and anticipated working in a much more regulated industry, until it failed. So I entered trucking thinking I'd also have to do things I think you are considering. It turns out I was expecting trucking to be like a CIA screening process when it is just standard business practices with a drug screen. Once hired I made Job #1 living clean and open and living like a model citizen. It turns out that was easier and didn't require half of the effort required to cover up stuff.

Hah, thanks, nothing shady over here...if there was I wouldn't be asking all these questions. The two marching bands: Blue Knights, The Cavaliers. Other companies, JBH, Swift, 10R, Lazer, Legacy High School (a 3rd marching):

I got the privilege to help build out the shelving in one of them.
But like I said, one band isn't even listed on MVR, the other I'm not sure how to list my 3 summers driving with them...
And as for Lazer (1 month of work) and 10 Roads (no person to contact anymore)...idk.tscottme Thanks this. -
No employer is listed on an MVR. You've mentioned "one band isn't even listed on MVR". Yeah, no band or employer SHOULD be on ANY MVR.
Imagine if I said "I don't understand my my credit card statement doesn't show what food I ordered at the restaurant where I used my card." The CC statement is supposed to list that detail, just the location, date, amount, merchant code. So not seeing that one band on your MVR is what you are supposed to be seeing on the MVR. I may be confused about what you mean or you use MVR when you mean something else. MVR lists accidents, tickets & citations. They don't list employers. Why do you think one band should or might be on your MVR, did you run over that band or did they run over you in a traffic accident?GoneButNotForgotten Thanks this. -
Then I must be thinking of something different than an MVR, perhaps a Driver's License History. I don't know the name of it...but when potential employers last fall called me after receiving my applications they mentioned seeing such and such companies (JBH, Swift, etc.) but they didn't say one of the bands, however they did mention R.E. Garrison, whom I've never heard of, driven for, applied for, or seen of before until potential employers were seeing it on my driver's license history. I thought perhaps it was a different name for 10R or Lazer (i.e. head company) but I suppose it isn't...
