Has anyone ever done this swap before?!
what all would you need and is it even worth doing this? I personally don’t want to I prefer that little red number she came with. I just can’t find a decent one that somebody isn’t smoking d*ck with the price. If anyone is close or in Kansas I’d be interested in having a chat.

I wouldn't put the red devil in anything, especially one with an n14 in it already.

The thing with the ISX is you either get one thats amazing and that is maintained good from day one. Or you get one that is garbage. And while there is a grey area there with ones that run hard and heavy all the time being vastly more likely to be good. Its an all or nothing.

That said. They are still better then paccrap motors. But if you have an N14 on a pre 03 truck id put a detroit or cat in over an ISX. Both are vastly better motors then the N14 and wont cost much more to swap in then the ISX. Likely less.

Nothing wrong with the isx motors if u take care of them .. im guessing the 550 isx is around the model year that would be after the n14c+.. and no emission crap on those.. but me personally id just buy a n14 block and build it from the ground up. Be in it for the same price most likely and save the time of changing around wiring harnesses. And you'll also know what ya got built. instead of buying something from somewhere hoping they built it right..

i’d rebuild that N 14. They’re one of the cheapest motors to overhaul, they were pretty bulletproof and dependable, and they have decent pulling power. Truck I own currently has an ISX, and I don’t think I’ll buy another one just because it has an ISX in it. Haven’t been altogether impressed with the motor yet, but it’s working.

I would definitely keep the N14. If I had my choice between the 2, the N14 hands down. Only exception would be a YELLOW motor. But thats a whole other topic.
