My credit union approved my for a loan but I have to register and plate my semi truck in Michigan. Michigan is a no fault state that requires PIP insurance. I want to run under my trucking companies insurance and authority but since they’re in Missouri, I don’t think they offer PIP. Thing is, PIP is hard to get as a stand alone insurance because it mainly comes bundled with other full auto policy. Any way to get PIP alone while running under my trucking company’s insurance for everything else?

Can you bundle it with your non-trucking liability policy?

    xzmpt Thanks this.

Who’s telling you that you have to take michigan based insurance?

    you don’t.

get your insurance from the carrier that you are leasing to, no one at the SOS cares other than it is insured. You will have to have your contract in place before taking their insurance.

Michigan requires PIP insurance according to Google. So that means my trucking company’s insurance would have to satisfy Michigan’s PIP if I’m getting it registered in Michigan which my credit union requires me to do. Seems like I would go to the DMV and they wouldn’t even let me register the semi truck if I don’t have the correct insurance for Michigan.

According to progressive they only offer PIP with liability. So it seems like I would have to buy a full insurance policy in order to get it.

Ok why do you need to plate and insure it in michigan? Is there a reason.orther then "google says"? Second if its the bank requireing it. talk to the bank explain your going to be leasing to another company and ask if you can provide.proof of registration and insurance.

I operate out of SD but my truck is plated and insured in kansas. The only time i ever plated it in SD was to get it home, retitle kt and pay taxes on it, title is still in SD even though im running KS plates. And even then i had it under the company i am leased tos bobtail insurance until i got their plate. Jist plated as a personal vehicle. The state and the bank only care that its insured and you have proof of that. And the bank only cares the title is in the state the loan belongs to and often they dont care at all. My bank is in wyoming and as long as its insured and plated and i pay my payments gives no crap where that is.

Your overthinking it. Get a contract with your leasee get insured take that to the state with the title. Pay your taxes, get a missouri plate and insurance and roll. CMVs work a bit diffrently for this kinda stuff then a car. If the bank wont allow it. Find a diffrent bank or a diffrent company.

That said i COULD be wrong. I dont operate out of your state so dont know the laws well. But you can call ooida and they can walk you through everything.
