Like all that money goes to funding the roads and such. Most I bet is going into politicians pockets via contracts to people they know with large kick backs. You ever see those road signs after road work completed saying 50 Million for this little area of road it cost to repave it? I am sure we could do the math on all of those projects and figure out pretty fast it is way over paid. We need to remove the #### tax all the way permit since it was set up for the interstate to be made, not maintained.

I have seen quit a few loads paying large amounts above normal this week especially out of CA. I am guessing that the illegals dont want to cross state lines during inspection week. I got one going to NV that paid pretty #### good and one back to MO that paid pretty #### good. I could care less what the fuel cost is when rates are that nice.

I should also say be careful of who you book with - make sure they're credit worthy. Obviously this is DOT blitz related but with all the other chaos going on in the world not every broker is going to survive these trying times.

I would have summarized more as "consumers won't get the full impact of the tax holiday, but will eventually have to pay the full price. The short term gain isn't likely worth it".

The links also have some decently written opinion pieces showing arguments on both sides. In my opinion, this isn't one of those 'both sides have a point' issues, in so far as the economics are concerned. Almost all economists and industrialists agree that there is little real economic gain to be had. Political optics are the driving force, with the economic rational only being used by the party out of power to try and diminish any political win. I chose an article from 2008 both to eliminate modern politics and to demonstrate both parties were for it during the election, and one was against afterwards.

"Some types of tax relief—including gas tax holidays—introduce costly economic distortions into the economy in the process of lowering tax burdens because they favor some industries and products over others. In contrast, broadly based and permanent tax relief does not favor particular industries or buying behavior, providing tax relief without harming the overall efficiency of the economy.1 There is a growing body of research that suggests tax holidays are a costly and inefficient way to offer tax relief to consumers compared with more broadly based and permanent types of tax relief.2"

I think it's all smoke and mirrors.......here's my thought....
Gas used to be $2.50 or less in my neck of the woods
Retailers said, "Hey, why not $3?"
So, they jack it up to $4 or $5
Then drop it back to $3
And all the sudden They're getting $3, and you think you're getting a deal

    These people are scum

In what world does it matter whether they collect the fuel tax or not? The government has been running massive deficits for decades. Highway maintenance will continue as usual this will have zero impact on that. It's political theater for sure but at the end of the day they just spend whatever they want whenever they want to as needed. It's how they do it, both parties.

My driver got an inspection in ND today. It's nice to see that DOT is looking for cabotage rule violations

As far as those who advocate completely eliminating the federal gas tax..States would need to raise their own gas tax to makeup for the deficit for lost federal money.

No one will benefit, maybe even pay more or just let their roads go to complete crap.

Saw a line striping crew early am on I-10 in Florida..had to have been 20 support (safety vehicles) and one guy driving the actual truck doing the work, lol, that’s a lot of quarters..
